About Sporting Heroes

London 2012 is fast approaching…….. There is wide expectation that more people throughout the country will participate in sport than ever before, inspired by the Olympic Games.

The challenge that Conwy’s sports clubs face is having enough volunteers and support to be able to cope with a mass influx of new people participating in their chosen sport.

That’s why we need Sporting Heroes……. Sporting Heroes will be a new breed of volunteers that support their local sports clubs and assist where necessary. This can be through coaching, assistant coaching, umpiring, organising or just helping out. Sporting Heroes will help to create a volunteer legacy that will be the backbone of local clubs for years to come. Creating this volunteer infrastructure will allow local clubs and participants to flourish and develop to higher standards in light of 2012.

Our aims and objectives are to:

  • Engage local 18-25 year olds in becoming Sporting Heroes
  • Increase the amount of young people volunteering
  • Recruit, reward, retain and support Sporting Heroes
  • Encourage continuous professional development
  • Assist and support clubs to develop their Sporting Heroes
  • Create a pathway for young leaders to develop
  • Improve club structures
  • Monitor existing volunteers
